I'm on a hiatus now, but I was inspired by Sati5d's upcoming album of different mashup artists choosing their one best track, I decided to collate what I think is the best of the last 5 years. I have created 100s of mashups since 2020, and had a particularly good year in 2023 and 2024, which came crashing down. Hence the tagline on the artwork 'Reel As The World Burns'. Some overlap with "I Just Work Here' from 2023 and 'Breaking The Chain' and the 20/21 albums, but I didn't want to leave anything off, but a lot of these tracks since 2023 never made it onto Bandcamp and have never been released in high quality....This is a good starting point if you're new to my mashups. The death of my partner John weaves in and out of this album, 14 of the mashups across the main album and bonuses are about him. The first mashup is the mashup I made directly after he died, it was played at his funeral, and 2021's The First And The Last Time was played at his cremation. That's his voice talking about pigeons on Don't Leave The Great Gig In The Sky. 8 of the 9 last songs on the main album are directly about that or him...as a tribute. I could have pushed these to the bonuses, it would make a 'happier' album, but I'm not going to airbrush the fact these mashups often came from grief, confusion and relationship issues in the last 4 years. I seemed to sense something bad was coming, and poured my unhappiness into making these. Music was one of the few ways I could make sense of things. Reel As The World Burns indeed.
